There are many advantages provided by the driveway that is paved over the one made of gravel. It is much easier and cheaper to maintain and also looks great. Most of all, it does not get damaged easily and also reduces the risk of your car getting scratched by stones, which is a common occurrence in driveways made of gravels and stones. However, one should know that paving the driveway requires a considerable amount of effort and is a major job, and also does involve a good amount of money. This is why hiring a good contractor for driveways kent is essential.

The first most important thing is that the driveway should be poured with good amount of base and the prep work should be done accurately and quickly. This is the most important part of the job, and if it is not done properly, chances are that your driveway won’t last longer than couple of years, which does happen when you hire the cheapest contractor around. To make sure that the base is poured properly, the area needs to be excavated till over a foot, and even if this is a bit expensive, in the long term, this is going to be really fruitful for you. Once that is done, the aggregate till around six to eight inches put in sub-base, which would help with drainage of water and must be compacted well too. Do make sure these tasks are included in the contractor’s bid.

Make sure that the bid of the contractor specify clearly that the base would be compacted to around two inches or more thickness, because that is what would allow your car to move on it smoothly. In otherwise case, the driveway would get damaged very soon. After the base layer is done, the driveway is paved which would be another one and half inches or more. Proper mix of asphalt is needed in this case. Make sure the contractor also develops a slight slope in your driveway for the water to drain out during rainfall.
